… “Jochen Wahl’s surreality is enormously aggressive; the fantastical aspect of his alienations within his objects, drawings and etchings seems to be an expression of reality for him.
It is not a game, but obsession that must be shown, exposed, and the pessimistic findings radically placed in front of the viewer. His shockingly hostile polyester heads are clad in mad leather caps and masked or mounted on a “pacification staff” as a “battle mask”.
Eyeless, animal-like, or technical faces, bodies, ropes, poles, lacing, and bondage also appear in the drawings and watercolors.
The fate of man is also shown in the etching with its intense colors and elegance. A fascination with the uncanny emanates from all of Wahl’s works.
